Rabun County, Georgia, Writs, 1836 - 1859
This publication abstracts the earliest extant writ volumes for Rabun County. Included in these volumes were many other record types, such as petitions, affidavits, accounts, and receipts, all of which can help researchers understand court proceedings recorded elsewhere in less detail. The original volumes are not microfilmed, and are currently only available at the Clerk of the Superior Court's office in Clayton, GA. Expected to be released early in 2013.
Slave Importation Affidavit Registers for Nine Georgia Counties, 1818 - 1847
Published in November 2012, this volume abstracts the affidavits of men and women importing slaves into the state of Georgia through Camden County, Columbia County, Elbert County, Franklin County, Jackson County, Jasper County, Morgan County, Pulaski County, and Wilkes County. These affidavits were required by an act of the General Assembly of December 1817, and were designed to regulate the domestic slave trade. Many of the affidavits include important information on not only the slaves holders, but also on the individual slaves, usually including detailed physical descriptions and, occasionally, genealogical data. For more information, see Now Available: Slave Importation Affidavit Registers for Nine Georgia Counties, 1818 - 1847. Retail price: $14.99. This title is available through the publisher, Bone Diggers Press, or through Amazon.com.
